CELEBRATIONS

My last post was on Diwali day in the beginning of this month. And the good times continue to roll on. Tomorrow is the date for the biggest festival for the Muslim community: Bakrid. To all my dear Muslim friends and colleagues, I take this opportunity of saying EID MUBARAK! And on November 18th, we the residents of Oman, are going to begin to rejoice in the celebrations to commemorate forty glorious years of the period of Renaissance- which began from the date Sultan Qaboos bin Said began charting out the map for Oman’s progress. Virtually every area out here is bedecked with lights of various hues and the onset of the winter season is adding to the celebratory mood of this place.
An interesting news item which I saw last week elevated my mood even further: this was a research finding which concluded that dark chocolate performs the same role as that of drugs which are commonly administered for controlling Hyper-tension. And as soon as I read this, without an iota of guilt, I opened the door of the refrigerator and helped myself to a large bar of Lindt’s Dark Chocolate, which in normal circumstances would have been offered to guests!
Much to my dismay, the visual display of the varieties of sweets, which began from the Diwali date, has continued unabated and has caused more calorie accretion than what could be burnt my very moderate walking: hopefully this trend should reverse in the next few weeks, but who knows the next celebration might be just around the corner?
